How do I book a horsebox?
You can book a self-drive horsebox directly through the website’s booking form, by emailing [email protected], or by calling 0800 118 2678.
What types of horseboxes are available for hire?
Equi-Hire has premium 3.5 tonne self-drive horseboxes available, which include options like stallion partitions, breast bars, or “weekender” setups for shows and trips.
Do I need a special licence to drive a hired horsebox?
Whats is covered with insurance?
The insurance covers the horsebox vehicle only, not the horses. Owners are responsible for their horse(s) and must ensure they have any required licences or insurance.
What happens if the horsebox is damaged?
A damage deposit is taken at the time of booking. If the horsebox is returned with damage, Equi-Hire reserves the right to charge for repairs.
Can Equi-Hire transport my horse for me?
Yes, Equi-Hire offers transportation services with an experienced driver and handler (e.g., for vet visits, competitions, yard moves, buying/selling journeys). Specific rates are provided on a price-on-application (POA) basis.
Are there restrictions on horse size or type?
We can accommodate most horses up to the standard UK riding horse size, but very tall or heavy animals may limit space for a second horse. If you have large warmbloods, draft-type horses, or wide warm-blood crosses, let us know in advance.
How many horses can fit in the horsebox?
Our self-drive horseboxes are designed to carry one or two horses, depending on their size and type. Ponies & smaller horses you comfortably fit two and large horses or wide horses may require single loading. If you’re unsure whether your horses will fit, please ask us before booking.
When can I collect and return the horsebox?
Standard collection is from 9:00am, and the horsebox should be returned by 6:00pm on the final day of hire, unless agreed otherwise in advance. Early collection or late return may be available for an additional fee, depending on the time requested and availability.
Do I pay for fuel?
Yes, the vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel. You are responsible for refilling the tank before return. If the horsebox is returned with less fuel than supplied, a fuel charge will be applied.
Do I need to clean the horsebox before returning it?
Yes, we ask that the horsebox is returned clean and free from waste, including hay, bedding, droppings, and any personal belongings. If you would prefer not to clean the vehicle yourself, you can opt for our cleaning service for an additional fee.
